Canada Passport & Visa Photo Guidelines
Your photo is a vital part of your visa or passport application. To learn more, review the information below on how to provide a suitable photo. Digital images are required for some visa or passport categories, while photos are required for other visa or passport categories.

Canada Passport Photo Guidelines:
Your photo should conform to the following requirements:
- Your passport photo should be colored and printed on a quality photo paper.
- Canada passport picture size should be 5 x 7 cm.
- Full-face view. Your head should be seen from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin.
- Expression of your face should be neutral. Natural smile is allowed.
- Both eyes should be open.
- Look straight at the camera.
- Your head must be between 1 1/4 inch and 1 7/16 inches (31mm – 36 mm) from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin.
- The photo should reflect your present-day appearance. It should be made within the last 6 months.
- The background should be plain white or off-white.

On the back of 1 photo
the photographer:
- must clearly write or stamp the date the photo was taken
- name and complete address of the photo studio
your guarantor must:
- clearly write “I certify this to be a true likeness of (applicant’s name)” for an application
- sign the back of the photo

- Canada passport picture size should be 3.5 x 4.5 cm.
- Full-face view. Your head should be seen from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin.
- Expression of your face should be neutral. Natural smile is allowed.
- Both eyes should be open.
- Look straight at the camera.
- Your head must be between (32mm – 36 mm) from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin.
- The photo should reflect your present-day appearance. It should be made within the last 6 months.
- The background should be plain white or off-white.
